LOWER COLUMBIA SCHOOL GARDENS
Cultivating the values of lifelong learning, sustainability, health, and community.
Yale Elementary began building a student garden during the 2010/2011 year, with the goal of integrating the many benefits of gardening into the student curriculum. From starting seeds in the greenhouse to learning about compost and soil composition, the Yale PTO has recognized the many opportunities for learning and discovery that come with a garden. This year we have expanded our garden to include raised boxes, and added new perennials to the landscape.
The goal of the garden is to create a farm to table option for our student lunches, as well as a "laboratory" for exploring one of the most fundamental
questions of any environment; where does our food come from? We welcome visitors and volunteers, both the committed and the curious, who are interested in
the expansion of school gardening programs and food awareness, in our effort to bring this project into full bloom. Happy planting!
